Pet Shop Boys and Sven Helbig are excited to announce that this October, a new recording of A Man from the Future will be broadcast by the BBC as a world exclusive.

The composition by Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe explores the life, death and influence of pioneering mathematician and cryptanalyst Alan Turing. It was created in collaboration with Turing’s biographer, Professor Andrew Hodges.

First performed at the Royal Albert Hall in 2014, the revised work has been produced by Pet Shop Boys and Sven Helbig. Sven also arranged the strings for the new recording, which were performed by the Manchester Camerata. Juliet Stevenson provides the narration. Sound artist Maarten Vos contributed additional synthesizer programming to the recording.

BBC Radio 6 Music will broadcast A Man from the Future on Sunday, 4 October, as part of Stuart Maconie’s Freak Zone (8–10 pm). Stuart will also be joined by Neil and Chris and by Andrew Hodges to discuss the creative process behind the reworking, as well as their interest in bringing electronic and orchestral music together.

Later that evening, the piece will be broadcast on BBC Radio 3 as part of Unclassified (11:30 pm–12:30 am). Pet Shop Boys and Andrew Hodges will join presenter Elizabeth Alker in the studio to reflect on the original performance and the work’s evolution in 2026.

Both programmes will be available on BBC Sounds for 30 days after transmission.
